FACULTY RESOURCES
How can I have my students learn about library research skills?
- Information literacy training for undergraduate and graduate classes is available by contacting Leslie Todd, our Information Literacy Librarian (829-3841). She works collaboratively with faculty to teach students how to use library resources effectively. Services provided include:
- Providing instruction for your classes
- Conducting one-on-one sessions to introduce you to our resources
- Helping you design assignments that engage students in library research rather than Internet research.
- More information on information literacy

Can I put items on reserve?
- Faculty may place personal items and library resources on reserve at the Circulation Desk. Call Kathy Mulligan, Evening Circulation Supervisor, at 805-5896 for details.
- When faculty bring reserve items to the library, it must be done in person (no proxies). Faculty are required to fill out a form specifying the item, check out period, and length of time needed for reserve handling and sign a copyright compliance form as needed.
- Items can be on reserve for 2 hours, 2 days, or one week. Items on 2-hour reserve must be used only in the Library. Only students with a valid UIW ID can borrow these items.
- All reserve materials are entered into the online catalog and can be found under the Course Reserve tab. These items can be found by the faculty name, course number or department.
- At the end of the semester items are removed from reserve for pick up.
What are the conditions for borrowing books?
- Faculty may borrow books for a full semester or summer term
- More information on Circulation Policies.
What are the conditions for borrowing audiovisuals/media?

- More information on Audiovisual Collection Policies.
Can I send a proxy to check out items from the library?
- Faculty may designate proxy borrowers (student assistants) to check out library materials on their behalf by filling out a Proxy Borrowing Form.
What about borrowing materials from other libraries?
- There is an interlibrary loan service called ILLiad, which is available to all faculty. You must register for the service using your e-mail login and password. ILLiad Link

- In addition, faculty may obtain a TexShare card from the Circulation Desk, which will allow the user to borrow books from other Texas libraries. More about TexShare Card Program.
What about making Photocopies?
- As a courtesy, a copy card is kept at the Reference Desk for faculty use.
- This card is for making a small number of copies for research not for multiple copies for distribution.
How can I recommend materials?
- Faculty are encouraged to submit requests for publications, AV materials and databases to be added to the library’s holdings.
