MABEE LIBRARY FACILITIES

[Areas for Study] [Meeting and Event Rooms]

Areas for Study and Research

Quiet Study Space

On the first floor, the stacks (to the left of the computer research area) provide many quiet study areas.  The tables and carrels alongside the windows facing the Administration Building are very quiet.

On the second floor, the journals room 203 (through the wooden doors across from the elevator) provides many carrels and tables for quiet study.

Group Study Rooms

For working in groups, the library has several study rooms on the second floor that can be used for 2 hours for two or more people.  These rooms are just off the elevator in the south wing of the library.  Rooms 235 and 236 have a flat screen monitor that you can hook up to a laptop.  All rooms have whiteboards.  Keys are checked out from the circulation desk.

Popular Reading Area

This area is on the first floor in the large room (Room 138) behind the Reference Desk.  In one corner you will find a collection of popular magazines and newspapers and comfortable seating for reading. The last three sections of shelving contain a collection of English-language fiction; many bestselling titles can be found here. This area is not as quiet as others in the first and second floor stack areas.  There are tables and carrels available as well.

Reference Area

In the area where reference books are shelved, you will find a variety of seating options for study.  There are tables, carrels, and leather chairs. Because the Reference and Circulation Desks are nearby, this area is not as quiet as other areas of the library.

Computer Research Area

The computer research area is located to the left of the reference desk.  The computers in this area can be used to search the online catalog, databases, journals, and the Intenet.  There are tables and data drops available in this area for use with your laptop.

These computers do not have Microsoft productivity software.  Documents can be viewed and printed from these computers, but they cannot be created.  The Media Center, located in the basement of this building, has computers with Microsoft software, SPSS statistical software, and other software options.

Doctoral Study Rooms

The library has two rooms for doctoral students to use for research and writing. Room 103 is in the first floor stack area and Room 233 is in the group study room area on the second floor. Both have desks and computers for doctoral students.  Room 233 is reserved for students actively working on their dissertation; GoPrint services are available in this room.  Keys are checked out at the Circulation Desk for a 4-hour period.

Audiovisual Viewing Area

Room 105 in the first floor stack area has various audiovisual equipment set-ups for viewing and listening to DVDs, videotapes and audio CDs, tapes and records.  The door key and the electricity activation keys are checked out at the Circulation Desk.

Finnegan’s Coffee Shop

Inside the Library’s atrium is Finnegan’s where you can get a cup of coffee and a snack.  Tables and chairs in and outside the coffee shop allow students to sit, talk, and work while enjoying food and beverages.  Finnegan’s, which is run by Sodexho, is not open during the summer months or during inter-sessions and does not maintain the same hours as the Library.
