J.E. & L.E. Mabee Library

Reference Services

"Information Literacy is defined [by the American Library Association] as the ability to know when there is a need for information, to be able to identify, locate, evaluate, and effectively use that information for the issue or problem at hand." At UIW librarians teach IL to individuals and to groups at the reference desk and in class. They use the full range of traditional and electronic resource materials available at the Mabee Library, and beyond, to help students determine the most appropriate source for their needs.

Reference service is provided in person, by telephone, written or e-mail to find the information source needed for specific answers to specific questions, as well as provide direction for finding more in-depth research sources. A librarian is on duty at the following times to assist users with their information needs, determine what is available, develop search strategies to identify, locate and use information resources, and offer instruction on such topics as bibliography and source citation:

8:00 am - 12:00 midnight, Monday - Thursday
8:00 am - 6:00 pm Friday
10:00 am - 5:00 pm Saturday
2:00 pm - 12:00 midnight Sunday
